Scouts Centenary, Dragon Boating, Dorney Lake
Safety is always a major point with everyone at the company and here we see instructor Geno getting his crew to practice bracing the boat before paddling up the lake to join all the others.
It was not long afterwards that the next coaches started to arrive. With around 1,000 scouts to organise throughout the day over four separate sessions, the arrival, training, teaching and final departure of each session needed to be timed to perfection. Despite the challenge, the organisation by the dragon boat event crew, the scout organisers, the scout leaders and even the coach drivers throughout the day was exceptional.
Far out on the water, we see the first crews are enjoying themselves in the boats. With light winds and warm sunshine, you could not have asked for a better day. See if you can count how many dragon boats are on the water in this shot?
Meanwhile back on land, the next teams get their buoyancy aids fitted and then undergo a safety briefing in preparation for their turn.
Out on the water, the fun went on before the boats started to race each other.
It was only when everyone stood around the dragon boat events Ltd. marquee that you began to appreciate the enormity of the task Dragon Boat Events Ltd. was under taking and just how many scouts were involved!
