With the four dragons off their trailer and on the water, the event team soon had the boats all ready on the beach. Now it was just the control marquee to erect, the P.A. to set out and wire up and the paddles and buoyancy aids to lay out and organise - under the watchful eyes of the Rotary team..
Before long, the various team organisers started to arrive and put up their gazebos. Twenty three teams were expected today and there was a sense of excited anticipation in the air.
It was amazing just how fast the land area filled up as the team started to arrive and beforelong, the first teams were called up for their races.
Bar-B-Q’s were lit, the breakfast burgers were on and across the water on the other side of the small bay, the Cannock Powerboat club had their own entertainment, live music and fair.
Getting the boats off the beach when fully loaded is always a challenge and often Dragon Boat Events Ltd. Chief Marshall Jan, would need to give a helping push just to get the teams on their way!
Here in the red tea-shirts are Team Spirit. On their first race they posed the fastest time of the day, so I decided to trust the team not to capsize by taking my camera with me for a few shots of the team in action.
With the racing all completed and just the prizes to award,
Third place went to TEAM SPIRIT (who remained the holders of the fastest time of the day).
Second place went to the home team from CHASE WATER POWERBOAT CLUB.
First place went to A J SELLMAN.
Next year's event is booked for Sunday 10th August 2008. So if you want to be part of next year's fun, click the link to register your interest.
